3 Colors of the Labrador:
    1. Black - most popular due to the dominate Gene
    2. Yellow - is the second most popular due to dominate X recessive Gene
    3. Chocolate - has its color due to recessive X recessive Gene

Yellows vary in shades of color from a very light yellow (almost white), to a dark  yellow, it's darkest being a very dark yellow called Fox Red.
Chocolates can be dark brown to almost gray (sometimes called silver )

Pointing Labs

Some labs will naturaly point small game, birds, rabbits etc.  The point is much like that of the more familiar pointing dogs like the English or German Shorthair. The main difference is that they will move when the game moves and and will still flush and retrieve. They can be trained to hold and back other pointing dogs. Some of our labs do point and I do prefer to hunt pheasant over labs that point. We do not do any training or reinforcing of the point.

Food
We feed only Purina Pro Plan. Pro Plan large breed puppy food is fed to our expecting bitches and puppies from 4 to 24 months Pro Plan performance is fed to dogs during intense training and during hunting season, this ends up being most of the time. Adult Chicken is fed to less active dogs. The cost of food is directly related to the nutrition content and density. Less expensive food has less nutrition so you will need to feed more to maintain the same the dog. The more you feed the more you need to pick up and dispose of later. Most of our dogs get only 3 measured cups of food a day with Pro Plan, most other brands of food would require 8 to 12 cups; it is up to you how much yard waste you would  rather pick up?

WHAT IS CERF?
The Canine Eye Registration Foundation (CERF) is an organization that was founded by a group of concerned, purebred owner/breeders who recognized that the quality of their dog's lives were being affected by heritatary eye disease.

WHY ARE HIPS AND ELBOWS GRADED?
The phenotypic evaluation of hips done by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals falls into seven different categories. Those categories are normal (Excellent, Good, Fair), Borderline, and dysplastic (Mild, Moderate, Severe). To access the OFA Website
http://www.offa.org/hipinfo.html for further information.  We only breed those with hips in the fair to excellent range, we would never breed a dog that has hip dysplasia. Our breeding dogs all have good to excellent hips and good elbows.

Selecting A Breeder
We can not stress enough to only buy your puppy from responsible and well-respected breeders. Responsible breeders are concerned with the betterment of the breed, the health of the dogs,  and will have some knowledge of dogs mentioned in the pedigree. Knowing family history is very important in breeding for the future of the breed.
For example, they work on breeding healthier dogs with the appropriate temperament for their breed . Although breeding for a certain color or trait may be important yet it is not as important as overall health of the dog.

We are no longer running in hunt tests or trials. We  have decided to concentrate on training for upland and waterfowl hunting only. You will not see any of OUR dogs, except Jaeger, with AKC titles in their name but there will be some in their parents  pedigree. We choose our dogs from known breeders who hunt their dogs, or hunt and run tests and trials.

PRICING

FAQ
(FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)

PICKING OF PUPPY

IF THE LITTER IS ALL ONE COLOR THEN A CHOICE OF MALE OR FEMALE WILL NEED TO BE MADE AND A DEPOSIT WILL HOLD YOUR PICK IN THE ORDER IT WAS TAKEN .  If the litter is all black, and there are 3 males and 3 females. if you are the first to put a deposit on a black male you will be the first to choose out of the 3 available males . If you are the second to put a deposit on a black male you will get to pick out of the two remaining males after the person with the first deposit has made their choice."  If the litter is of multiple colors and genders the choices become more difficult, but to be fair and in trying to ensure the puppies go to their new homes on the 49 day, a choice will need to be made. If after you put a deposit on one you decide you want to change color or gender, you may do so, if there is no other deposit on the one you wish to choose.   You may see the mother anytime and the father anytime "if" , it is on site. But the puppies are kept from outside biological influences for about 2 weeks, after then the pups may have visitors and be handled by others. The actual picking of the puppy should be done at or around 2 weeks, you loose your pick if you are unable to pick your pup within 2 days of the 2 week Birthday of the puppy since other picks would have to wait for you and that is not a fair practice. The puppy will be marked with nail polish and a collar if necessary.
